“HAP” & “Speed” Lightfoot
HAP’s Burger & Taps pays tribute to Ewart “Hap” & George “Speed” Lightfoot who opened the first gas station on Mercer Island in 1918 on this very same corner. The Lightfoot family was instrumental in the development of Mercer Island, opening the first grocery store, post office, gas station and advocating for the floating bridge. We were inspired by the sense of community they brought to the island and hope to carry on that spirit here at HAP’s.
THE HOMEGROWN GROUP
Founded in 2009, Brad Gillis & Ben Friedman opened the first Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich shop in Seattle, WA. Over the last 13 years, we’ve learned a lot about the power of consumer decisions to change the food system. In 2018 we took steps to expand beyond our fast-casual sandwich shops to grow our impact on the regional food systems in the PNW. Today, we operate retail, wholesale and mobile food businesses. With the help of our customers & supporters, we plan to continue pushing the boundaries of the sustainable food system, improving the lives of farmworkers, the planet, and our employees along the way.
